Clinical Practice and Quality-Oriented External Stakeholder Meeting Between Aksaray Training and Research Hospital and the Nursing Department

The Nursing Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Aksaray University held a comprehensive external stakeholder meeting with the management of Aksaray Training and Research Hospital to improve processes, evaluate mutual institutional expectations, and enhance the educational quality of students who will participate in clinical practice during the 2026-2027 academic year.

Representing our university, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Didem BALUN KAYAN, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kadriye SAYIN KASAR, Head of the Nursing Department Prof. Dr. Funda ÇETİNKAYA, and department faculty members attended the meeting; while Deputy Chief Physician Yeliz DEMİRCİ, Healthcare Services Manager Belgin KILIÇ and assistant managers İlknur ÖZENÇ and Ayşe TELLİ, Education Unit Coordinator Ayşe KARANFİL, and Nejla ÖZTÜRK from the Quality Unit participated on behalf of the hospital management.

One of the most important agenda items of the discussions was the current status of the students in clinical practices and the improvement of this process. The impacts of students who have not yet had their social security (SGK) registrations remaining in a purely observer status were mutually evaluated in terms of student development and institutional expectations. For the new term, it was agreed to make joint plans to transition students from being mere observers to being more actively integrated into clinical practice and care processes, while observing legal boundaries and patient safety to the maximum extent. During this process, it was aimed to involve students in clinical care scenarios that comply with quality standards in the most efficient way through case-based observation.

With the aim of increasing quality in education and training, it was decided to optimize the unit-based distribution numbers of students by taking into account the physical capacities and patient densities of the clinics. In addition, an agreement was reached with the hospital management regarding the allocation of changing areas and personal lockers so that students can meet their basic needs during their time at the hospital.

To increase the sense of belonging in clinical operations, the strengthening of professional communication between charge nurses and students was emphasized. In this context, it was aimed to give students active responsibilities during first-contact processes, such as welcoming newly admitted patients to the clinics and providing their clinical orientations. The meeting concluded with the emphasis that the coordination prioritizing quality in education will increasingly continue between the two institutions.
